Blowing up digital pictures and using digital picture frames?
How can I take digital pictures that I take and make them larger? Do I use a program like photoshop for this? Also, most digital picture frames out there are 5×7. Is this so the picture will fill the whole frame? What if I want to use an 8×10 frame or larger? Kodak seems to only sell the 5×7 frames. Any advice?
First of all they represent Digital picture frames by the diagonal width say 10 inches, unlike the traditional Wooden Frames where you specify the width by height e.g 5×7, 8×10 etc.
Every Digital Picture Frame has a limit on what they can display. Usually a 7 inch Digital picture frame supports 480 x 270 pixels and a 10 inch frame supports 800 x 480 pixels.
This may sound weird, but you have to shrink the picture and not enlarge it for the optimum clarity. The reason is any decent 6 MP digital camera will take a minimum of 3264 x 2448 pixels. Since a 10 Inch digital picture frame can support only 800 x 480, but the digital picture you take is 3264 x 2448, it’s better to shrink it.
Shrinking the picture gives optimum results, and it’s a lot faster since the frame does not spend it’s processing power in shrinking the image internally and above all you can fit lots of images in the same memory card if you shrink it.
There are lots of softwares to scale-down the pictures. Photoshop is one among them and I use it all the time.
